Expanded assignment standards

Marking criteria are intended to provide a concise description of what is expected while leaving scope for students to exercise creativity in crafting a response. Because they often use compressed language some additional explanation may assist with ensuring that a response. This page is intended to provide some additional explanation of the criteria to enable you to better match the expectations embedded in the criteria. The expansion of the criteria for the resources will also assist in the peer review process.

In preparing your submission give some thought to how you can make it easier for a marker to see how you have met the criteria. We try to approach reading in a positive frame, looking to see where and how the criteria have been addressed. Poorly organised work and writing that does not flag content with important key words can make it difficult or impossible to see how the standards have been met. If you are writing about a curriculum key idea, general capability, or cross curriculum priority it will help if you mention it by name and category and describe how it is present in your work. The expansions below frequently include 'explicit' as a reminder of the need to help readers to find what they are looking for.

Criteria Level Standard Notes
Resource content (x 2) Meets requirement The content of the resource is aligned to the identified content description The resource ought to be appropriate to the content description (CD). CDs typically begin with a verb (investigate, critique, generate, develop, select, evaluate, etc.) so the learner activity stimulated by the resource ought to reflect that verb. The activity should be directed toward elements mentioned in the CD.
and the scope and sequence of activities is appropriate to support the intended learning. CDs often refer to multiple ideas. The resource need not address every aspect of the CD but should have sufficient scope to reflect the intent of the CD without becoming overwhelming. The sequence of activity stimulated by the resource should have some clear logic related to the CD.
Exceeds requirement The content of the resource meets requirements, As above
incorporates at least one key idea from the curriculum The resource should explicitly target at least one of the curriculum key ideas, which should be mentioned by name. The related learning should be clearly visible in the resource.
and contributes to broader curriculum goals. The resource should also make an identified contriubtion to learning in one or more of the general capabilities and/or cross-curriculum priorities. An alternative might be integration with another learning area or a contribution to some other clearly identified aspect of the Australian Curriculum.
Exemplary The content of the resource exceeds requirements, As above
explicitly integrates general capabilities and/or cross curriculum priorities, The resource should also explicitly target one or more of the general capabilities and/or cross-curriculum priorities with mention by name. Therelated learning should be clearly visible in the resource.
and is enhanced by the inclusion of alternative activities or sequences to facilitate differentiation. There should be explicit provision for differentiation by adjustment to learning activities and/or their sequencing.
Resource format (x 2) Meets requirement The resource is able to be accessed

The resource should be in a file format that can be accessed by a variety of systems. The file should be uploaded with the submission or linked to a valid URL included in the submission. Check that everything is working by trying access from a different device and/or asking a friend to try it.

and navigated by teachers and learners to support learning and teaching. It should be obvious how to access the resource and its components. It should be easy to do so without errors or becoming lost in a navigational maze.
Exceeds requirement The design of the resource meets requirements As above
and enables convenient access The resource should use commonly available file formats and should not require excessive processing capability or bandwidth.
within a professionally presented package. The packaging of the resource should be professional, without obvious lapses in language conventions or other unprofessional elements. Material incorporated from other sources should be appropriately acknowledged.
Exemplary Design features of the resource exceed requirements, As above
enhance its utility and flexibility for learners and teachers, There are features of the design that add to its ease of use or flexibility. That might include navigational features, availability in different formats, attendance to accessibility requirements, or other features.
and facilitate links to the curriculum The resource and its associated documentation make rich links to the curriculum beyond the CD that is its focus.
within a professionally presented package with aesthetic appeal. The resource package meets the requirements for professional presentation and includes elements such as graphics, use of colour, or images that enhance its aesthetic appeal.
Peer reviews (x 2) Meets requirement The reviews provide constructive comments Include (excerpts from) the comments provided in the workshop during the peer review process. The intent of the peer reviews was to improve quality of resources so include examples of constructive comments that would assist with improving the resources rather than simply praise for a good job.
relevant to the criteria for content & format outlined above. The comments should be linked to the criteria for resource content and format described above. That will be most helpful for improving the resource and the assessment for your colleague.
Exceeds requirement The reviews meet requirements As above
and describe potential improvements to content or format Constructive comments identifying problems to be addressed could meet requirements but this needs suggestions about how to address the problems or effect other improvements.
supported by reference to curriculum. Suggested improvements should indicate how the changes would better address the curriculum, perhaps by inclusion of additional aspects.
Exemplary The reviews exceed requirements As above
and explain practical suggestions for enhancement of content and/or format Comments should explain why suggested changes are desirable.
with appropriate references to curriculum, course objectives and/or professional standards. Suggested improvements should be linked to curriculum, EDP4130 objectives, and/or AITSL/QCT standards.

Exceeds requirement The report describes significant design decisions about content and format At least two design decisions are described rather than simply identified.
with reference to a relevant framework. Links are made to some guiding framework which might include a design thinking process, pedagogical model, or aesthetic standard.
Exemplary The report explains design decisions about content and format The comments go beyond description to explanation with articulated reasons.
with reference to design thinking, the curriculum, course objectives, and/or relevant professional standards. The design decisions and reasons for them are related to one or more of the listed areas.
Learning reflection Meets requirement The report identifies learning that occurred relevant to the curriculum content and pedagogy. There are explicit mentions of learning about curriculum content and pedagogy that resulted from the project work.
Exceeds requirement The report describes significant learning that occurred The learning is described more fully rather than simply identified.
relevant to the curriculum content, pedagogy, and course objectives. Learning is explicitly linked to course objectives as well as curriculum content and pedagogy.
Exemplary The report explains learning that occurred The comments go beyond description to explanation with articulated reasons.
with reference to design thinking, curriculum content, pedagogy, course objectives, and/or professional standards. The learning that occurred is explicitly related to one or more of the listed areas.
Engagement reflection Meets requirement The report identifies some effects of peer interaction during the project. There is explicit mention of effects (beneficial or not) of interaction with peers in the context of the project.
Exceeds requirement The report describes The effects of interaction are described more fully rather than simply identified.

Exemplary The report explains The comments go beyond description to explanation with articulated reasons.
how reciprocity in interactions with peers and the wider profession The interactions are shown to have involved two-way exchange of information for mutual benefit.
affected the project outcomes including professional learning. The effects of the interaction can be seen to have gone beyond the resource development to broader professional learning.
Professional presentation Meets requirement Submission meets all requirements for the deliverable, It is submitted on time using one of the preferred file formats and named as directed with no cover sheet or marking guide. The resource is available as an additional file or linked from a valid URL.
